AVAs are made famous by the wines produced from the grapes grown there. It is no wonder, then, that the excitement is rising in the heights above Cloverdale in the northern reaches of Sonoma County, where wine titans Benziger Family, Kendall Jackson, Francis Ford Coppola, along with other Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak winegrowers are focusing on highly-desirable mountain fruit.

Pine Mountain Vineyards lies at the center of the new Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA, with rocky soils, steep slopes and sun-drenched southwestern hillsides of the Mayacamas range. Famed viticulturalist Ulises Valdez discusses his passion for farming Cabernet Sauvignon at Pine Mountain Vineyards, situated at 2400ft elevation.

Winemaker Miro Tcholakov of MIRO Cellars discusses why he loves crafting wines from high elevation Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Silverwood Ranch, located in the new Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA.

"The concept of a new, small, high-elevation, exclusive AVA with not a lot of acres planted and not a lot more to plant is alluring," said Mike Foster, owner of Tin Cross Vineyards.

Imagery Estate Winery, voted Sonoma County's best winery in 2013, the second year in a row, recently won a number of Gold Medals for wines made from premium wine grapes grown on their Upper Ridge Vineyard, including from from the Sunset International Wine Competition, the San Diego International Wine Competition, and the Dallas Morning News Wine Competition.
